Yom HaShoah, the Annual Jewish Remembrance Day for Victims of the Holocaust, was marked across Progressive communities with a series of talks, vigils and services.
Our members were also among the thousands who gathered for the 2026 National Yom HaShoah UK Commemoration in London, bringing together survivors, descendants and community leaders for a ceremony of remembrance, reflection and the reaffirmation of a shared commitment to ensure the lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten.
Rabbi Rebecca Birk of Finchley Progressive Synagogue represented The Movement for Progressive Judaism, lighting a candle alongside 97-year-old survivor Lydia Tischler MBE and Bernice Kennet, the daughter of survivor Gina Turgel (photo by Meron Persey Photography).
Rabbi Rebecca said: “This ceremony, in the shadow of the Houses of Parliament, was particularly poignant this year. As I lit the sixth candle with survivor and friend of FPS Lydia Tischler, I was moved by the sense of collective mourning and determination that this must never happen again.”
You can watch the ceremony in the video below.
