Members of The Wimbledon Synagogue joined neighbours of all faiths and none, from across South West London, for a sponsored walk to raise funds for Glass Door Homeless Charity.

Organised by the Council of Christians and Jews (CCJ) South West London & Dittons, the Common Ground 5k Walk offered an opportunity for members of the synagogue to connect with the wider local community while enjoying the green spaces of Wimbledon Common.

Walking side by side, participants shared conversations and strengthened relationships across different faith traditions. The event highlighted how collective social action can unite communities in addressing urgent local needs.

Rabbi Adrian Schell said: “Our tradition places a high value on acts of loving-kindness and social responsibility. Stepping outside the walls of our sanctuary to walk alongside our neighbours allows us to live those values in a tangible way. It was wonderful to see people from different backgrounds come together with a singular focus on supporting vulnerable people in our city.”

Funds raised from the walk support Glass Door, an organisation providing emergency winter shelters, hot food, and advice to help individuals find a permanent route out of homelessness. Contributions are still being collected to support the initiative and can be made directly through the official appeal page.
