The Ark Synagogue hosted the UK book launch of Jewish Changemakers, of which member Karin Brygger is one of the authors.
The book highlights around 100 Jewish women and gender-diverse individuals who have helped shape the world through creativity, activism and achievement – bringing together personal storytelling and cultural history to challenge stereotypes and broaden how Jewish identity is understood.
Interviewed by Ark member Rivi Cohen, Karin said a key motivation for the book was to give young Jewish people a stronger sense of pride in their identity, particularly in her native Sweden where narratives often focus on “dead Jews” through the Holocaust or negative portrayals linked to conflict in the Middle East.
Rivi said: “It is a wonderful book on female and non-binary Jews who changed the world, which I would recommend to any young person, Jewish or not.”
Karin is a writer, poet and academic who has published widely and works in Jewish cultural and educational spaces in Sweden. She and her family first connected with The Ark during the COVID period, and they have attended online/hybrid services and events ever since.
