Alan Byers, Choir Leader at Radlett Reform Synagogue, has now completed more than 45 years in the role – making him one of the longest-serving choir leaders ever in a British synagogue.
Alan, who took up the position in 1980, is a retired GP who also plays the horn, trumpet and trombone. For the last 20 years he has been ‘partnered’ by Andrew Blankfield.
The Radlett choir has a large repertoire of sung prayers, and Alan has written at least 150 arrangements and several original compositions, putting them all into the Sibelius music notation programme.
