More than 80 educators from Progressive synagogues across the country came together for the Progressive Educators Conference 2026.
The annual event plays a vital role in supporting Progressive Jewish education – giving heads, teachers, teaching assistants, rabbis, cantors and all involved in cheder and community learning the chance to strengthen their skills, explore contemporary challenges and share best practice.
The day opened with remarks from Rabbi Josh Levy, Co-Lead of Progressive Judaism, followed by an inspiring keynote from Rabbi Debbie Young-Somers and Rabbi Sandra Kviat, who spoke about the central role of education within our new Movement for Progressive Judaism.
Participants chose from 12 sessions delivered across four educational tracks – Teaching Assistant 101, Kef (Fun), Deeper Issues, and Hebrew and Torah. Fourteen experienced presenters led sessions on topics ranging from Classroom Behaviour Management and How to Make Peulot Fun, to Contemporary Antisemitism and Teaching the Torah as One Story.
Participants described the day as “electrifying”, “hugely helpful” and “a great way to meet people and share ideas”.
Reflecting on the event, The Movement for Progressive Judaism’s new Community Youth and Education Lead Emma Rich said: “The conference provided a fantastic opportunity to connect with people and communities from across the country. The presenters were informative and engaging, and the atmosphere throughout the day was incredibly positive. I’d like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to making the conference such a success.”
