A full house at Wimbledon Synagogue enjoyed an uplifting evening of Sephardi music and storytelling at Romancero Sefaradi, a beautifully curated concert of Ladino song and spoken word.
The choir and soloists were in fine form for a rich programme that blended choral works with individual performances, alongside captivating readings that brought the music’s cultural context to life.
Directed from the piano by Wimbledon’s Director of Music Sarit Aloni, the choir was supported by instrumental contributions on violin, cello and guitar from within the community. The majority of the repertoire was performed in Ladino, with thoughtful introductions to each piece offering insight into the Sephardi world from which this music emerged.
