Progressive Jewish Students

Progressive Jewish Students (PJS) supports vibrant Progressive Jewish life on campuses in the UK and Ireland.

Our work covers three key areas:

Supporting Students

We support Jewish students to build communities and run events on campus, as well as offering religious support and pastoral care. Any student can get in touch (see contact details below), and we are always happy to chat, either on the phone or over a coffee! We also work to connect students with university Jewish societies and our member congregations.

In addition to national staff support, we hire students part time as PJS Campus Ambassadors, to run events and create community on their campuses. This year, we have ambassadors in Bath, Birmingham, Brighton & Sussex, Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, & Manchester. They can be contacted via the office.

Working with UJS and JSocs

We work with the Union of Jewish Students (UJS) and Jewish societies (JSocs), ensuring that Jewish student life is inclusive of Progressive Jews. This includes advising UJS and JSocs on Progressive Jewish practice, highlighting when spaces aren’t inclusive or welcoming, and encouraging Progressive Jews to engage in UJS and JSocs.

We also work to educate all Jewish students about Progressive Judaism through organising and attending campus events, organising visits for Progressive rabbis, and contributing to UJS programming.

Supporting Progressive Clergy and Congregations

We work with Progressive rabbis and congregations to engage and support students. We work with rabbis and community leaders to provide pastoral support for students when needed, create Progressive Jewish spaces for students, and to support students in their own Progressive Jewish practice, whether individual or in community.
