Kivunim B’ Mitzvah Programme
Kivunim is The Movement for Progressive Judaism’s national B’ Mitzvah Programme designed for children from small and medium-sized communities – building strong year group cohorts and bringing fun, friendship, and lifelong memories.
Kivunim is a warm, welcoming programme that brings together young Progressive Jews in school years 7 and 8 (P6 and S1 in Scotland) to support one another as they prepare for their B’ Mitzvah journey.
Across two years, participants will journey through six key areas of focus, over four residential weekends:
- Jewish Identity (year 7)
- Tikkun Olam (year 7)
- Community (ongoing)
- Jewish Ritual (ongoing)
- Informed Decision Making (Year 8)

My Life as a Jewish Adult (Year 8)
The residential weekends, held each November and April, are packed with exciting activities from wide games and bonfires to outdoor adventures like climbing, kayaking, and archery. With inspiring leaders from our Progressive Youth Movements, RSY‑Netzer and LJY‑Netzer, participants are supported as they explore new aspects of themselves, their Judaism, and the world around them.
Most importantly, these weekends offer a chance to bond as a group, celebrate Shabbat together, and build friendships that will accompany them throughout their B’ Mitzvah journey.
Kivunim also features personalised, year‑round challenges designed to keep young people engaged between gatherings. Each participant works toward collecting up to 75 “Nitzotzot” (sparks) by completing Mitzvot (good deeds). These might include attending synagogue, practising for their B’ Mitzvah, volunteering, contributing to a charitable project, celebrating festivals, or learning a new skill. Every participant receives their own book to record their achievements over the two‑year programme.
The programme concludes with a celebration for all Year 8 graduates, bringing together friends, families, and leaders. And of course, this isn’t goodbye – participants will continue to see one another at future LJY‑Netzer and RSY‑Netzer events.
Kivunim is open to all members of participating Progressive Judaism communities.
