Lucian J Hudson receives his award accompanied by Alderman Tim Hailes, his wife Margaret and his cousin Antonina
Lucian J Hudson – a member of The Liberal Jewish Synagogue and former Chair and Vice President of Liberal Judaism – has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London.
The honour recognises Lucian’s contributions to environmental affairs, civic engagement and cross-sector collaboration throughout a distinguished public service career.
Lucian received the honour – one of the City’s oldest traditions – at a ceremony in The Guildhall.
His career spans more than 40 years across Government, media, civil society and higher education, currently as Executive Director, Communications & External Relations, Durham University and as Chair of the Tavistock Institute. He is also Chair of Earthwatch Europe, a role he is stepping down from after 10 years of dedicated service.
Lucian’s period as Chair of Liberal Judaism (2009 to 2015) saw many achievements, including the successful campaign for equal marriage and support for a living wage, a more active role for Liberal leadership within Anglo-Jewry, and closer ties with Reform Judaism that helped pave the way for the creation of The Movement for Progressive Judaism.
