A member of Beth Shalom Reform Synagogue was among those who welcomed King Charles III as he visited Cambridge Central Mosque as part of celebrations marking 75 years since Cambridge was granted city status by his grandfather, King George VI.
The King was given a guided tour of the mosque, with a particular focus on its inclusive and sustainable design.
Mike Frankl, of Beth Shalom (pictured with King Charles), said: “It was a privilege to attend the event and represent the Jewish Community in Cambridge. It was particularly pleasing to see the King recognise the importance of the mosque’s work with other faith communities.”
The visit was attended by leaders of the Cambridge Muslim community, including Imam Sejad Mekic, senior Imam, and Abdul Kayum Arain, Chair of the Cambridge Muslim Trust. Both are friends of Beth Shalom and work to strengthen interfaith relationships across the wider Cambridge community.
The King unveiled a plaque marking the 75th anniversary of Cambridge becoming a city and also visited the University of Cambridge’s new Whittle Laboratory.
