This week a dark turning point occurred in our fight to keep egalitarian prayer at the Kotel (Western Wall).
MK Avi Maoz’s Bill, that would grant sole control over the entire Kotel to Israel’s ultra-Orthodox Chief Rabbinate, was sent to the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee by the Knesset.
When this Bill was initially approved in a first reading in February, Progressive Jews across the world expressed outrage to their Embassies. When the war with Iran started a few days later, our global movement collectively decided to pause the campaign in the name of Jewish unity.
However, the Knesset’s dangerous and divisive new decision – taking place during a time of war – has compelled us to resume our action.
