More than 90 members of the Edgware and Hendon Reform Synagogue (EHRS) community came together for a weekend of friendship, fun and Jewish connection at the fifth annual EHRS Family Camping weekend.

The event welcomed families of all ages, including the youngest camper, just 10 weeks old, alongside many returning families and new participants experiencing the weekend for the first time.

EHRS Family Camping 2Held as a celebration of community and togetherness, the weekend featured a packed programme of activities, including Shabbat discussions, a night walk, a water fight and a Kids vs Adults rounders match. Families had the opportunity to spend quality time together, build new friendships and enjoy meaningful Jewish experiences in the outdoors.

EHRS Youth Worker Hannah Weber, alongside two visiting Israeli leaders from Leo Baeck College, delivered an engaging youth programme for young people, complementing the wider family activities and ensuring there was something for every age group.

The annual camping weekend was first piloted five years ago by Sarah Koster, Head of Development & Engagement for Families, and Rabbi Debbie Young-Somers. What began as an idea to bring families together has grown into one of the highlights of the EHRS calendar.

Reflecting on the growth of the event, Sarah said: “When we started the very first EHRS camping weekend five years ago, we could not have imagined how much it would grow or how special it would become for our families. It is incredible to see so many people coming together each year, creating memories, friendships and meaningful Jewish connections.”

Families who attended shared how much the weekend meant to them. The Stanton family said: “It was such a brilliant weekend, we all loved it and can’t wait for next year!”

The Starkowitz family added: “Thanks everyone for a fantastic weekend, we all really enjoyed it and it was lovely to get a break from real life. Such a wonderful community of people.”

EHRS continues to be a community where families can connect, celebrate and share experiences both within the synagogue and beyond its walls. The growth of the camping weekend reflects the strength of those relationships and the welcoming spirit of the EHRS community. The team looks forward to welcoming families back for next year’s gathering.
