Philip Kramer speaksThe Newcastle Reform Synagogue (NRS) Social Action Group held its first fundraiser of the year, Tea with The Judge, in support of its five chosen charities: The Hub, The People’s Kitchen, The Comfrey Project, Action Foundation and the West End Refugee Service.

The judge in question was His Honour Philip Kramer, who delivered a lively presentation, telling attendees about the history of the Inns of Court in London before sharing amusing anecdotes and experiences from his illustrious career.

Copious amounts of sandwiches and cakes were consumed, and the gathering very generously raised more than £600 for the charities, all of which work with some of the most desperate and disadvantaged in society: the marginalised, the destitute and, all too frequently, the homeless.

NRS member Helen Brady said: “All in all, it was a lovely sociable occasion made all the more special by raising money for very worthy charities.”
