Thursday 25 – Sunday 28 June 2026:
Darkeinu: A Century of Progressive Jewish Partnership
Come to Darkeinu and help us to celebrate 100 years since the founding of the World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ).
Being held in London from Thursday 25 – Sunday 28 June, Darkeinu will bring together Progressive Jews from all over the globe for a landmark gathering of learning, community and celebration.
Organised by the European Union for Progressive Judaism (EUPJ) together with The Movement for Progressive Judaism (MPJ) – and taking place on the weekend after MPJ’s own flagship Hineinu conference – Darkeinu will celebrate a century of Progressive Jewish partnership.
Learning and workshop sessions, celebratory services and keynote addresses will be led by rabbis, cantors, educators and community leaders from all around the world.
Participants will be able to follow one or more of the six strands of the conference: Progressive Jewish history of the past century; Israel and Progressive Jews – from non-Zionism to 21st century Progressive Zionism; our next generations – youth and global Progressive Judaism; Progressive Judaism beyond our gates – social justice and interfaith dialogue; innovations and our response to new technology; affinity groups – bringing people together to share challenges and opportunities.
Most sessions will take place at a central London Progressive Synagogue, with Friday night services held in Progressive communities across London and the Home Counties.
Highlights will include a gala opening evening, Shabbat services and dinners, Jewish walking tours of different parts of London and a celebratory Havdalah. Attendees will have a choice of lectures, panels, workshops and discussion groups throughout.
Darkeinu is non-residential, but there are plenty of recommendations for nearby accommodation on the conference website.
For those wishing to enjoy a full week of Progressive Judaism, from Tuesday 23 – Thursday 25 June, bridging the gap between Hineinu and Darkeinu, there will be a rich and fascinating series of visits and day trips.
These will include visits to the British Library, British Museum, Wiener Holocaust Library, Waddesdon Manor, Houses of Parliament and Leo Baeck College – as well as tours to discover the Jewish history of Brighton and Cambridge.
Darkeinu Co-Chairs Rabbi Mark Goldsmith and Rabbi Lea Mühlstein said: “The WUPJ started in London in 1926 with the first ever conference of Progressive Jews from around the globe. We can be proud that the antecedents to the Movement for Progressive Judaism, led by Lily Montagu and Claude Montefiore, had the vision to know that Progressive Judaism had much to give to the entire world.
“This year, in June 2026 WUPJ is coming home! The EUPJ and MPJ invite you back to London to celebrate this centenary milestone – a hundred years of connection, courage and creativity.”
