Shavuot in the centre of England

Progressive Jewish communities from across the centre of England came together at Nottingham Liberal Synagogue for a special Shavuot learning day centred on the theme of chesed (loving kindness).

The event brought together members from Nottingham Liberal Synagogue, Birmingham Progressive Synagogue, Leicester Progressive Jewish Congregation, Lincolnshire Jewish Community and others in the region for a programme of worship, study and discussion.

The day began with a Shabbat morning service jointly led by Rabbi Gili Zidkiyahu of Nottingham Liberal Synagogue and Rabbi Lisa Barrett of Birmingham Progressive Synagogue, followed by a range of sessions exploring Jewish learning and community.

Sarita Robinson, The Movement for Progressive Judaism’s Director of Community Partnership, who supported the event, said: “People travelled such distances to be there. It was a lovely day demonstrating how we are stronger together.”

Sessions throughout the day explored a wide range of topics including Judaism and astronomy, a journey through biblical cheese and the plenary session From Matzot to Mitzvot – as well as dedicated youth activities – offering something for attendees of all ages and interests.
