Joyce Rothschild, a member of Birmingham Progressive Synagogue, is aiming to break one final record after running a hugely successful annual quiz for Macmillan Cancer Support for 29 years.

She will step down this year, as the quiz marks its 30th anniversary, aiming to continue her record of each bringing in more than the last. In total, a colossal £326,449 has been raised for Macmillan.

Joyce said: “It has been a joy to keep the quiz running all this time. I am so grateful to my many loyal and generous supporters, who have never failed to donate. They were not so interested in the modest prize we offered, but were happier simply to take part.

“Each year, the quiz has raised more than the year before, so hopefully this, our final year, will be yet another further record breaker!”

Joyce thanked her husband, Mark, and her long-time friend Yasmi Roberts for their great help in keeping the quiz running smoothly and well organised.

Macmillan Cancer Support regards Joyce as one of its most valued supporters. She has helped the charity continue its valuable work for people with cancer and their families. The £326,449 total includes £26,288 raised by the most recent quiz.

It has been my great pleasure to publicise Joyce’s enormous work for charity, and she fully deserves a national honour for carrying it out with such great success.
